The short answer: the best place to buy wall art online is a store that specializes in wall art and makes each piece to order, so you get the right size, format and finish for your wall. At Buy Wall Art, every stretched canvas, framed canvas and framed fine art print is made to order and shipped free across Canada and the U.S.
Below: where to shop, how to spot quality before you buy, and how to choose the right size and format so the piece looks finished the moment it's hung.
Key Takeaways
-
Specialty wall art stores give you the most control over size, format and finish. Marketplaces and home stores offer volume, not fit.
-
Online beats local for most buyers: more sizes, more styles, and framing options that actually fit your wall.
-
Scale matters more than the image. Most wall art disappoints because it's the wrong size, not the wrong design.
-
Look for real-room photos. The best stores show every print styled in a real room so you can judge scale and colour before you buy.
Where to Buy Wall Art Online: Your Main Options
Large marketplaces offer massive selection and fast browsing, but artwork is often generic, inconsistently sized, and printed for volume rather than design impact.
Artist marketplaces focus on originality and independent creators. They're great for discovering unique work, but sizing, framing and delivery vary widely from seller to seller.
Home stores sell wall art as part of seasonal collections. Styles can be on trend, but size options are usually limited and pieces are designed to match furniture lines rather than real wall layouts.
Specialty wall art stores focus entirely on canvas prints and framed art. They prioritize scale, proportion, materials, and how the piece looks once it's on your wall, which makes them the best option if you want a polished, intentional result.
At Buy Wall Art, we focus only on wall art: stretched canvas, framed canvas and framed fine art prints, sized for common wall layouts and made to order.

Buying Wall Art Locally vs. Online
Local galleries and home stores are useful if you need something today or want to see texture in person. The trade-off is a limited selection: standard sizes, few framing choices, and styles that may not suit your room. Prices on large or framed pieces can also be higher.
Buying online opens up far more sizes, styles and formats, and makes it easier to match pieces across several rooms. For most buyers, online gives better selection, better sizing, and better value.
How to Spot Quality Wall Art Online
-
Real-room photos. Lifestyle images show you scale and colour far better than a flat product shot.
-
Clear sizes and formats. You should see exact dimensions and every format option before you order.
-
Solid construction. Canvas should be stretched tight on sturdy bars so it holds its shape, and arrive ready to hang.
-
No surprise costs. Free shipping means the price you see is the price you pay.
Do canvas prints fade? Well-made prints hold their colour for years. To keep them looking their best, avoid hanging them in strong direct sunlight and dust them gently with a soft, dry cloth.
Canvas or Framed: Which Format Should You Buy?
Buy Wall Art offers three formats:
-
Stretched canvas (unframed): a clean, modern look with no glare.
-
Framed canvas: the texture of canvas with the finished edge of a frame, in black, white, natural or brown.
-
Framed fine art paper (with a plexiglass cover): a classic, crisp gallery finish in black or white frames.
Choose based on whether you want a frame, and whether you prefer the texture of canvas or the crisp finish of fine art paper. Browse framed wall art or canvas wall art.
How to Choose the Right Size
Art should relate to the furniture or wall it hangs above, not float in the space. A good rule: the piece (or group of pieces) should span about two-thirds of the width of the furniture below it. Above a sofa, that usually means at least 36 inches wide.

Large Statement Pieces
For big, blank walls, one oversized piece anchors the room better than several small ones, especially in open-concept living and dining spaces. Look for pieces that are at least 36 inches wide for a feature wall, printed on durable polycotton canvas, and ready to hang with pre-installed hardware.
